The New York Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers square off in game two of their MLB set from Miller Park on Friday night.
The New York Mets will look to build on their series opening 5-0 win over the Brew Crew on Thursday night. Asdrubal Cabrera and Wilmer Flores each had two RBIs, with Cabrera going 1 for 5 with a double while Devin Mesoraco went 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Mets in the win. Brandon Nimmo went a perfect 4 for 4 at the dish with a triple and a double while Jay Bruce added a two-bagger of his own. Amed Rosario went 2 for 4 while Michael Conforto and Adrian Gonzalez each had base hits as well in the win. Steven Matz picked up the victory after throwing six shutout innings, walking and striking out three apiece and giving up just four hits. Noah Syndergaard will start game two and is 4-1 with a 2.91 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. In his career, Syndergaard is 2-0 with a 0.49 ERA and 27 strikeouts against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers will look to rebound after having their three game winning streak snapped in the series opener on Thursday. None of the Brewers’ five hits as a team went for extra bases, as Lorenzo Cain, Christian Yelich, Ryan Braun, Hernan Perez and Tyler Saladino each had a single in the loss. Zach Davies took the loss after giving up four runs on six hits over four innings of work to fall to 2-4 this season. Junior Guerra will start game two and is 3-3 with a 2.98 ERA and 41 strikeouts this season. In his career, Guerra is 1-0 with a 0.71 ERA and 6 strikeouts against the Mets.
New York is 11-2 in Syndergaard’s last 13 starts against the AL Central and 19-45 in their last 64 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Milwaukee is 1-4 in Guerra’s last 5 starts and 6-2 in their last 8 games overall while the under is 8-2 in Guerra’s last 10 home starts against a team with a winning record. New York is 1-5 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee and plus money at home is extremely tempting and is worth a look 9 times out of 10 in this matchup. However, Guerra has given up four runs or more in two of his last four starts and the Brewers have lost four of his last five starts overall. I’m not ready to say the Mets are back on track yet, but if they’re going to be, they can’t afford to waste starts from their ace, especially when he hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any of his last nine starts and has given up just one earned run in over 18 career innings against Milwaukee. I’ll lay the juice based on the pitching matchup, but this may be a game to just watch rather than try to pick.
