The Cardinals offense managed seven hits with Tommy Pham clubbing his 9th long ball while Jedd Gyorko and Marcell Ozuna posted two hits apiece.  The Cardinals hand Saturday’s road start at Pittsburgh to right hander Jack Flaherty. Flaherty comes off a 5-1 victory versus Philadelphia with the lone run allowed on two hits while recording 13 strikeouts over 7.2 frames.

The Pittsburgh Pirates took the series opener versus NL Central rival St. Louis behind strong efforts on the mound and at the plate. Pittsburgh starter Joe Musgrove picked up the win with seven shutout innings where he recorded seven strikeouts.

The Pirates racked up 12 hits and walked once with Francisco Cervelli smacking a three run double while Josh Harrison went 2-4 with a pair of RBI’s and a run. Pittsburgh saw Jordy Mercer drive in a run and score twice followed by Austin Meadows with two runs.

The Pirates have tabbed Trevor Williams as the game two starter versus visiting St. Louis. Williams comes off of an 8-5 loss to San Diego (ND) with four runs scoring on four hits over six innings of work.

Under is 15-5-2 in St. Louis last 22 overall and under is 15-5-2 in St. Louis last 22 on grass and under is 5-2-1 in St. Louis last 8 road games. Under is 14-5-2 in Pittsburgh last 21 Saturday games and Pittsburg are 10-4 in their last 14 home games and under is 19-6-1 in Williams' last 26 on grass. Under is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings and St. Louis are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings in Pittsburgh.

For whatever reason the Pirates have been having plenty of success in this matchup and ‘m hoping that trend continues…
