Tropicana Field and the Tampa Bay Rays host the Baltimore Orioles in a Saturday MLB matchup.
The Baltimore Orioles are in desperate need of a prolonged hot streak and might be on their way after downing Tampa Bay 2-0 on Friday. Baltimore didn’t do much offensively but didn’t need to with David Hess tossing 6.2 scoreless innings to pick up the win.

The Orioles did their damage on nine hits with Jonathan Schoop going 2-4 with a solo homer while Danny Valencia doubled in Adam Jones who had three hits. Andrew Cashner toes the rubber against Tampa Bay on Saturday looking for back to back wins. Cashner defeated the White Sox 3-2 last time out with both runs scoring on eight hits and three BB in five innings.
The Tampa Bay Rays also need a long hot streak to stay in the hunt in the American League East. Tampa Bay was outstanding on the mound but struggled at the plate in Friday’s defeat with reliever Sergio Romo allowing a run in 2/3 of an inning in a spot start while Ryan Yarbrough came on to give up a run in seven frames.
The Rays attack consisted of seven hits and four bases on balls with Mallex Smith going 1-2 with a pair of walks and Matt Duffy going 2-4. Reliever Ryne Stanek makes his first career start against visiting Baltimore on Saturday. In 27 career relief appearances Stanek is 0-0 with a 5.76 ERA covering 25 innings of work.
Under is 11-1 in Baltimore last 12 on astroturf and Baltimore are 1-7 in their last 8 games on astroturf and Baltimore are 13-38 in their last 51 road games. Under is 5-1-2 in Tampa Bay last 8 on astroturf and over is 5-1-2 in Tampa Bay last 8 Saturday games and under is 5-1-2 in Tampa Bay last 8 home games. Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Tampa Bay and over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings and Baltimore are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay has said they are going with reliever by committee in this weekend series with the Orioles which I don’t understand. I’m not sure what we’ll see from Stanek so take this with a grain of salt…
