The San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs meet in the rubber match of their three game set in this week’s edition of Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN from Wrigley Field.
The San Francisco Giants will look to build some steam after snapping a three game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Cubs on Saturday in game two. Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford each had two RBIs, with Crawford going 2 for 3 with a home run and a double. Andrew McCutchen added a double of his own with an RBI to round out the scoring for the Giants in the win. Gorkys Hernandez went 3 for 5 with a pair of double and Evan Longoria added a two-bagger of his own while Mac Williamson chipped in a base hit as well to cap off the offense for San Francisco in the winning effort. Chris Stratton got the win to improve to 6-3 this season after giving up three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out six over five innings of work. Hunter Strickland closed out the 9th for his 10th save of the campaign. Ty Blach will start the finale and is 3-4 with a 4.37 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. In his career, Blach is 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA and 6 strikeouts against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs will look to rebound and win the series after dropping game two on Saturday. Kyle Schwarber and Javier Baez each recorded a solo home run, with Schwarber adding a double as well. Anthony Rizzo and Jason Heyward each had an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the Cubbies in the loss, while Albert Almora Jr. added a double and Willson Contreras added a base knock to cap off the offense for the Cubs in the defeat. Jose Quintana took the loss, falling to 5-4 this season after giving up four runs on five hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings of work. Yu Darvish will start game three and is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA and 49 strikeouts this season. This will be Darvish’s second career start against the Giants.
San Francisco is 5-1 in Blach’s last 6 starts and 18-40 in their last 58 road games while the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 games against the NL Central. Chicago is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a left-handed starter and 1-4 in their last 5 home games while the under is 6-1 in Darvish’s last 7 starts. San Francisco is 3-13 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Chicago.
Darvish hasn’t allowed a run in his lone career start against the Giants, and has given up one run in each of his last two starts. However, I’m still not sold on Darvish as I still have my doubts with the Cubbies’ newest starting pitcher. Blach hasn’t been overly consistent as of late, but he’s had success against the Cubs in his career, and the Giants have shown that they’re capable offensively. I’ll take a chance with San Francisco on Sunday and possibly doubling my money.
