The New York Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers duke it out in the finale of their four game set from Miller Park in MLB action on Sunday.
The New York Mets will look to salvage a series split with the Brewers after dropping game three on Saturday by a final score of 17-6. Jose Reyes led the Mets, going 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, while Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto each had a solo home run. Wilmer Flores and Devin Mesoraco each added an RBI as well to cap off the scoring for the Mets in the loss. Asdrubal Cabrera, Jay Bruce and Adrian Gonzalez each had a base hit as well to finish off New York’s offense in the losing effort. Jason Vargas gave up five runs on six hits while striking out five over three innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jacob Rhame ended up with the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Zack Wheeler will start game four and is 2-4 with a 5.32 ERA and 47 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wheeler is 1-1 with a 2.00 EA and 18 strikeouts against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers will look to win the series after going up 2-1 with their rout on Saturday. Christian Yelich, Jesus Aguilar and Hernan Perez each led Milwaukee with three RBIs, while Tyler Saladino and Domingo Santana each had two runs on the board in the win. Erik Kratz added a solo home run while Ryan Braun, Lorenzo Cain and Travis Shaw each added an RBI to round out the scoring for the Brew Crew in the victory. Chase Anderson gave up five runs on seven hits while striking out five over 3.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Dan Jennings got the win to improve to 3-1 on the year. Jhoulys Chacin will start the finale and is 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. In his career, Chacin is 2-5 with a 5.76 ERA and 35 strikeouts against the Mets.
New York is 0-4 in Wheeler’s last 4 starts and 2-5 in their last 7 games against the NL Central while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. Milwaukee is 6-1 in Chacin’s last 7 starts and 5-1 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 20-5-1 in their last 26 Sunday games. New York is 1-7 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Milwaukee.
I don’t think anything is stopping the Mets offensively from earning the split on Sunday, as Chacin has had his struggles in the past against New York. However, a lot of those starts came when he didn’t have much of an offense behind him. The issue I have with Wheeler is that the Mets have lost each of his last four starts, giving him one run of support in each of the last three. Also, Chacin has allowed two runs or less in seven of his last eight starts, including one run to these same Mets earlier in the season, while Wheeler has alternated good starts and blown up starts, and since his last start yielded just one run, I see Wheeler getting lit up here en route to a big Brewers win.
