The Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox square off in game one of their three game AL East division set in Memorial Day MLB action.

The Toronto Blue Jays will look to build some steam after picking up a series victory over the weekend, taking down the Phillies in game three on Sunday by a final score of 5-3. Dwight Smith Jr. and Devon Travis each had two RBIs, with Travis going 2 for 3 at the dish with a double while Smith Jr. added a double of his own in the victory. Curtis Granderson added a solo home run to round out the scoring for Toronto in the win. Josh Donaldson, Yangervis Solarte and Russell Martin each had base hits as well to cap off the Blue Jays’ offense in the winning effort. J.A. Haps picked up the win to improve to 7-3 this season, giving up all three runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out eight over 6.2 innings of work. Ryan Tepera closed out the 9th inning for his 2nd save of the campaign. Aaron Sanchez will start game one and is 2-4 with a 4.07 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. In his career, Sanchez is 4-2 with a 3.66 ERA and 52 strikeouts against Boston.

Kevin Sousa-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox will look to rebound after failing to complete the sweep of the Atlanta Braves over the weekend, dropping the series finale on Sunday by a final score of 7-1. Mitch Moreland went 1 for 4 with a triple and an RBI to account for the lone Boston run in the loss. Andrew Benintendi and Rafael Divers each had a double while Jackie Bradley Jr. added a base hit as well as Boston mustered up just four hits as a team in the loss. Chris Sale took the loss, getting tagged for six runs on five hits while striking out eight over just 4.1 innings of work. David Price will start game one and is 4-4 with a 4.07 ERA and 55 strikeouts this season. In his career, Price is 18-3 with a 2.43 ERA and 156 strikeouts against Toronto.

Toronto is 1-8 in Sanchez’s last 9 starts against a team with a winning record and 0-8 in their last 8 games following a win while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Boston is 6-2 in Price’s last 8 division starts and 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss while the over is 7-1-2 in their last 10 Monday games. Toronto is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

As a Blue Jays fan this still hurts to say, but I don’t know how anybody can back Toronto in this matchup. The Red Sox are the hottest team in the division and starting Price on Monday, a pitcher who has flat out owned the Blue Jays in his entire career. Sanchez hasn’t pitched well against teams with winning records dating back to last season, and the Jays have had trouble stringing back-to-back wins together for most of the season, so I’ll lay the juice with Boston here.
