Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Angels - 5/28/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Patrick Gorski-USA TODAY Sports

For Monday’s game, the Angels will be going with Tyler Skaggs in the start. In his 55.0 innings and 3-3 record this year, Skaggs has a 3.11 ERA with 59 Ks.

Tops in hitting for the Angels this year is Andrelton Simmons, with 61 hits, 30 runs and 30 RBI coming into the week. On Sunday, Simmons had two hits and a homer.

Over on the Tigers’ side, they’re fresh off a series versus the White Sox. Detroit split the first two games, then in the Sunday rubber match the Tigers eked out a 3-2 win.

Detroit will be sending out Matthew Boyd for the start on Monday. In his 52.0 innings and 2-4 record this year, Boyd has a 3.29 ERA with 41 Ks and 17 BBs.

Nick Castellanos is way out in front for the Tigers with 62 hits, 27 runs and 27 RBI coming into the week. On Sunday, Castellanos logged a hit and an RBI.

The Angels are 9-1 in their last 10 road games versus a team with a losing record and 7-2 in their last nine versus the AL Central. LA is also 5-2 in their last seven Monday games and 1-4 in their last five games versus a left-handed starter.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 4-1 in their last five during game one of a series and 1-4 in their last five Monday games. Detroit is also 5-14 in Boyd’s last 19 starts and 5-1 in his last six starts versus the AL West.

Skaggs gave up three earned in five innings in his last start back on Wednesday versus Toronto, but in his two career starts against the Tigers he’s got a nice 0.77 ERA. Boyd is coming off an oblique injury but he seems to be okay and should pitch reasonably well here. All of that said, I expect the Angels offense to do the heavy lifting here and carry the team to a win.
