We have some NL Central division action on the diamond on Memorial Day as the St. Louis Cardinals battle the Milwaukee Brewers from Miller Park.
The St. Louis Cardinals will look to build some steam after back-to-back wins to close out their series with Pittsburgh over the weekend, taking the finale by a final score of 6-4 on Sunday. Jedd Gyorko led the Cards with two RBIs, while Marcela Ozuna, Harrison Bader, Yairo Munoz and Carson Kelly each added RBIs as well in the winning effort. Matt Carpenter added a pair of double while Jose Martinez and Kolten Wong each had a base hit as well in the victory. Miles Mikolas went six innings, giving up all four runs on five hits while striking out five, not factoring in the decision. Sam Tuivailala got the win to improve to 1-0 this season while Bud Norris locked up his 11th save of the year. Luke Weaver will start the opener and is 3-4 with a 4.31 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. In his career, Weaver is 2-1 with a 4.40 ERA and 40 strikeouts against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers will look to keep their momentum going after winning three straight and six of their last seven games following an 8-7 come from behind win against the New York Mets in their series finale on Sunday. Jesus Aguilar led the Brew Crew with four RBIs, going 2 for 3 with a home run, while Domingo Santana added two RBIs with a double as well. Travis Shaw and Jonathan Villar each had an RBI to round out Milwaukee’s scoring in the win, with Villar adding a two-bagger. Christian Yelich went 3 for 5 while Lorenzo Cain went 2 for 4 and Ryan Braun added a base knock as well in the win. Jhoulys Chacin gave up five runs on eight hits while striking out three over 6.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Boone Logan got the win to climb to 1-0, while Corey Knebel locked up his 4th save of the season. Brent Suter will start game one and is 4-3 with a 4.56 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. In his career, Suter is 0-2 with a 3.80 ERA and 17 strikeouts against St. Louis.
St. Louis is 7-2 in Weaver’s last 9 road starts and 5-2 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games overall. Milwaukee is 7-2 in Suter’s last 9 home starts and 6-1 in their last 7 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 Monday games. St. Louis is 43-19 in the last 62 meetings between these two teams in Milwaukee.
Neither of these starters have been very reliable this season, but both have turned things around over the last couple of weeks, so I think the pitching matchup cancels out there. In the end, while the Cardinals have played well to close out their series over the weekend, the Brewers have been the much hotter team over the last month, and getting them at near even money is a gift I’ll gladly accept on Monday.
