The Battle of Maryland rages on on Wednesday as the Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles square off in the finale of their three game interleague set in MLB action from Camden Yards.

The Washington Nationals will look to put together their second straight series sweep, winning five straight games following a 3-2 win in game two on Tuesday. Bryce Harper and Mark Reynolds each had a solo home run, with Harper going 3 for 5 at the plate while Reynolds went 2 for 4. Wilmer Difo added an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the Nationals in the win. Juan Soto went 3 for 3 with a walk, while Matt Adams added a double. Michael A. Taylor and Trea Turner each had a base knock as well to cap off Washington’s offense in the victory. Jeremy Hellickson got the win to improve to 2-0 this season, giving up both runs on six hits while striking out three over five innings of work. Sean Doolittle struck out a pair in the 9th for his 12th save of the campaign. Max Scherzer will start game three and is 8-1 with a 2.13 ERA and 108 strikeouts this season. In his career, Scherzer is 5-2 with a 3.20 ERA and 85 strikeouts against Baltimore.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles will look to avoid being swept after suffering their fourth straight loss with their defeat in game two on Tuesday. Manny Machado hit a solo home run, while Adam Jones went 2 for 4 as well with a double and an RBI to round out the scoring for the O’s in the loss. Mark Trumbo and Joey Rickard each had two hits, while Jace Peterson added a base hit as well to cap off Baltimore’s offense in the losing effort. Dylan Bundy took the loss, falling to 3-7 this season after giving up all three runs on eleven hits while striking out six over six innings of work. David Hess will start the finale and is 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. This will be Hess’ first career start against Washington.

Washington is 11-1 in their last 12 road games and 27-9 in Scherzer’s last 36 starts against a team with a losing record while the under is 11-1 in their last 12 interleague games. Baltimore is 1-10 in their last 11 interleague games and 24-54 in their last 78 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 interleague games. The under is 12-4 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Baltimore.

This might be one of the simplest picks I’ve personally had to make in a while. Scherzer is on fire, not taking the loss in any of his last nine starts, going 8-1 with seven of those wins coming on the run line. Baltimore looks like they’re bracing to try to not lose 100 games and that’s all that they’re really fighting for this season. Hess has looked alright at times, but the starting pitching edge is way too much for Baltimore to overcome here in my opinion, so I’ll side with Washington on the run line here.
