For the Wednesday game, the Jays will be bringing out RHP Sam Gaviglio. In his 15.2 innings and 2-0 record so far this year, Gaviglio has a 2.30 ERA with 18 Ks and four walks.
Coming into game two, the Jays’ Kevin Pillar led the way on 55 hits, 27 runs and 21 RBI so far this year. On Tuesday, Pillar was 0-for-5.
As for the Sox, they’re going with Eduardo Rodriguez on Wednesday. Across 53.2 innings and a 5-1 record this year, Rodriguez has a 4.02 ERA with 65 Ks and 19 BBs.
Heading into Tuesday, Mookie Betts had the lead for the Sox with 66 hits, 52 runs, 17 homers and 37 RBI. In game two, Xander Bogaerts hit a homer and scored twice.
The Blue Jays are 3-10 in their last 13 Wednesday games and 1-4 in their last five during game three of a series. The under is 4-1 in the Jays’ last five Wednesday games and 59-28-8 in their last 95 versus a left-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 5-1 in Rodriguez’s last six home starts and 6-1 in his last seven starts with four days’ rest. Boston is 14-3 in their last 17 Wednesday games and 41-20 in their last 61 game threes of a series.
Gaviglio has been on a pretty good run lately, with three earned in his last two games over the span of 11.1 innings. As for Rodriguez, he’s given up two earned across his last two in 11.1 innings. This should be a decent pitching matchup, but I can’t find a lot of reasons not to pick the Sox for another win.
