The Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians meet in the finale of their three game AL Central division set from Progressive Field in MLB action on Wednesday.
The Chicago White Sox need a win to avoid the sweep after losing three straight and five of their last six games following a 7-3 defeat in game two on Tuesday. Daniel Palka hit a solo home run, going 2 for 4 with a double as well, while Tim Anderson and Trayce Thompson each had an RBI to round out the scoring for the White Sox in the loss. Yolmer Sanchez added a triple while Yoan Moncada and Charlie Wilson each had a base hit as well to cap off the White Sox offense in the loss. Lucas Giolito took the loss, falling to 3-6 this season after giving up five runs on nine hits while striking out three over six innings of work. Reynaldo Lopez will start the finale and is 1-3 with a 2.93 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lopez is 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA and 2 strikeouts against Cleveland.

The Cleveland Indians will look to complete the sweep after winning four straight games following their win in game two on Tuesday. Michael Brantley and Jose Ramirez each had a home run and two RBIs, while Jason Kipnis hit a solo homer. Yonder Alonso and Francisco Lindor each had an RBI to round out the scoring for the Tribe in the win. Roberto Perez and Greg Allen each went 2 for 4 with a double, while Edwin Encarnacion added a base knock of his own to cap off Cleveland’s offense in the win. Mike Clevinger gave up one run on four hits while striking out seven over 6.2 innings of work to get the win, improving to 4-2 this season. Corey Kluber will start the finale and is 7-2 with a 2.17 ERA and 78 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kluber is 9-4 with a 3.19 ERA and 145 strikeouts against the White Sox.
Chicago is 1-4 in Lopez’s last 5 road starts and 13-45 in their last 58 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games overall. Cleveland is 43-17 in Kluber’s last 60 starts and 21-5 in Kluber’s last 26 starts against a team with a losing record while the over is 12-1 in their last 13 home games against a right-handed starter. Cleveland is 6-1 in Kluber’s last 7 starts against the White Sox.
The price is steep, but I’m not sure how anybody could consider backing the White Sox in this spot. Sure, Lopez has pitched well in his lone career outing against Cleveland, but Kluber has owned the White Sox over the last couple of years and has given up just two runs over 20.1 innings in his last three starts. I’m not paying this kind of juice, so I’ll back the Indians on the run line to negate the heavy line.
