Down at Chase Field on Friday, the Miami Marlins and the Arizona Diamondbacks will be kicking off their weekend MLB series.
Miami is coming off of a set versus the Padres. Miami lost two of the first three games of that series, then on Thursday the Marlins fell again 8-3.

For Friday’s game, the Marlins will be sending out RHP Elieser Hernandez for the start. In his 18.0 innings and 0-2 record this year, Hernandez has a 2.50 ERA with nine Ks and one walk.
Tops in hitting for the Marlins this year is Starlin Castro, with 60 hits, 31 runs and 24 RBI coming into the Padres finale. On Thursday, Castro had a hit.
As for the Diamondbacks, they played the Reds this week. Arizona won the first two games but lost 7-4 on Wednesday to lose the set.
Arizona will be going with Clay Buchholz on Friday. Across 11.0 innings and an 0-1 record this year, Buchholz has a 1.64 ERA with five Ks and one walk.
The Diamondbacks’ leading hitter this season is David Peralta with 49 hits, 22 runs and 22 RBI. Close behind him is AJ Pollock, who is sitting on 44 hits, 23 runs, 11 homers and 33 RBI.
The Marlins are 8-20 in their last 28 in game one of a series and the under is 5-1 in their last six versus a team with a winning record. The over is 5-2 in Miami’s last seven games versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15 and the Marlins are 15-36 in their last 51 games versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are 5-1 in the last six games following an off day and 3-7 in their last 10 home games. Arizona is also 7-19 in their last 26 overall and 0-8 in their last eight versus the NL East.
We’ve only got three starts to huge Hernandez by, but so far he’s been pretty reliable with four earned total and 5.0 innings in each. As for Buchholz, he’s looked good in his return with just one earned in each of his starts. This could end up being a pretty good pitching matchup but all things considered I have to take the Diamondbacks.
