The Miami Marlins and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in game two of their three game set from Chase Field in MLB action on Saturday.
The Miami Marlins will look to rebound after losing four straight and seven of their last eight following a 9-1 loss in the series opener on Friday. Lewis Brunson accounted for the lone Miami RBI in the loss, while Derek Dietrich went 3 for 4 with a double and J.T. Realmuto added a two-bagger of his own. Starlin Castro, Justin Bour and JT Riddle each had base hits as well to cap off the Marlins’ offense in the loss. Elieser Hernandez remained winless, falling to 0-3 after giving up five runs on five hits over just three innings of work. Caleb Smith will start game two and is 4-5 with a 3.51 ERA and 69 strikeouts this season. This will be Smith’s first career start against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to keep the ball rolling after winning three of their last four, including the win in game one on Friday. Almost all of Arizona’s scoring came via the long ball, with eight runs coming from homers. Daniel Descalso, John Ryan Murphy, David Peralta and Ketel Marte each having two RBIs with a home run, while Jake Lamb launched a solo shot. Paul Goldschmidt and Jarrod Dyson each had a base hit as well in the winning effort. Clay Buchholz got the win to improve to 1-1 this season after giving up the lone run on six hits while striking out nine over seven innings of work. Zack Greinke will start game two and is 3-4 with a 3.64 ERA and 72 strikeouts this season. In his career, Greinke is 5-0 with a 3.77 ERA and 52 strikeouts against Miami.
Miami is 1-7 in their last 8 games overall and 13-32 in their last 45 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the NL West. Arizona is 20-6 in Greinke’s last 26 home starts and 1-8 in their last 9 games against the NL East while the under is 5-0 in Greinke’s last 5 starts overall. Miami is 1-5 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Arizona.
Smith has pitched well as of late, giving up just one run in back-to-back outings. However, the Fish are struggling mightily, losing seven of their last eight games. Arizona is showing signs of life, and while Greinke hasn’t been dominant like years past, he’s still a staff ace and has not lost to the Marlins in his career. All in all, I have to side with Arizona here even if it’s a fade from Miami more than anything.
