The Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets meet in the finale of their four game set from Citi Field in MLB action on Sunday.
The Chicago Cubs will look to complete the four game sweep of New York after taking game three by a final score of 7-1 in 14 innings on Saturday. Javier Baez, Ben Zobrist and Albert Almora Jr. each had two RBIs, with Baez hitting a home run, while Zobrist and Almora Jr. each had a double. Anthony Rizzo had an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the Cubbies in the win. Jason Heyward went 4 for 5 with a double while Kyle Schwarber had two hits. Kris Bryant, Addison Russell and Ian Happ each had a base knock as well in the winning effort. Mike Montgomery gave up the one run on two hits while striking out four over six innings, not factoring in the decision while Luke Farrell got the win to improve to 2-2 this season. Jon Lester will start game four and is 5-2 with a 2.71 ERA and 54 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lester is 5-1 with a 3.83 ERA and 38 strikeouts against the Mets.

The New York Mets will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after losing in game three on Saturday. Michael Conforto’s solo home run was the lone run the Mets would score in the loss. Luis Guillorme and Amed Rosario each went 2 for 6, while Jose Bautista added a double and Adrian Gonzalez added a base hit of his own to cap off the offense for the Mets in the losing effort. Jacob DeGrom gave up one run on seven hits while striking out 13 over seven innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Buddy Baumann took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season. Steven Matz will start game four and is 2-3 with a 3.55 ERA and 41 strikeouts this season. In his career, Matz is 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA and 11 strikeouts against the Cubs.
Chicago is 28-6 in Lester’s last 34 starts against a team with a losing record and 6-1 in their last 7 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a left-handed starter. New York is 0-5 in their last 5 games against the NL Central and 6-13 in Matz’s last 19 starts against a team with a winning record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. Chicago is 5-2 in Lester’s last 7 starts against the Mets.
Both teams will have depleted bullpens for this one, however I’m not sure how anyone can back the Mets, even at home. New York is free falling right now, while the Cubs are picking up steam. Lester has pitched well this season, feasted on teams with a losing record and has had a lot of success against the Mets in his career, so I’ll lay the juice with Chicago for the sweep on Sunday.
