The Atlanta Braves and the San Diego Padres meet in game one of a three game set from Petco Park in MLB action on Monday.

The Atlanta Braves will be looking to keep their momentum rolling after winning their crucial division set with Washington, taking three out of four games following a 4-2 win in the series finale on Sunday. Charlie Culberson led the Braves with a pinch-hit homer and two RBIs, while Dansby Swanson went 2 for 3 with a solo homer and a double and Nick Markakis added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for Atlanta in the win. Freddie Freeman added a double while Johan Camargo and Preston Tucker each added a base knock of their own to cap off the Braves offense in the victory. Animal Sanchez gave up the pair of unearned runs, on two hits while striking out five over seven innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Arodys Vizcaino closed out the top half of the 9th for his 2nd win of the season. Julio Teheran will start game one and is 4-3 with a 4.03 ERA and 54 strikeouts this season. In his career, Teheran is 4-2 with a 3.76 ERA and 49 strikeouts against San Diego.

San Diego Padres vs. Atlanta Braves - 6/4/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Padres will look to keep their own momentum going after winning five of their last six games, including a 6-3 win in their series finale against Cincinnati on Sunday. Hunter Renfroe led the Padres with four RBIs, coming on a pinch-hit grand slam, while Cory Spangenberg added a solo homer and Raffy Lopez added an RBI of his own in the win to round out the scoring for San Diego. Eric Hosmer went 3 for 4 at the dish while Franmil Reyes went 2 for 4 and Freddy Galvis added a base hit of his own in the winning effort for the Padres. Tyson Ross got the win, improving to 5-3 this season after giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out three over five innings of work. Kirby Yates closed out the 9th for his 1st save of the season. Clayton Richard will start the series opener and is 3-6 with a 4.74 ERA and 61 strikeouts this season. In his career, Richard is 0-6 with a 6.75 ERA and 17 strikeouts against Atlanta.

Atlanta is 13-6 in Teheran’s last 19 starts and 9-2 in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. San Diego is 5-21 in Richard’s last 26 starts against the NL East and 5-1 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 4-0 in Richard’s last 4 home starts. San Diego is 0-6 in Richard’s last 6 starts against Atlanta.

Okay, call me crazy here, but why on earth is San Diego a favorite here? I know Richard ahas been decent lately, giving up two runs in three of his last four starts, and the Padres as a team have been playing well overall lately. But Richard has had zero success in his career against Atlanta, and the Braves have been playing better baseball all season and will be riding some serious confidence after taking down their fiercest competition in the division in Washington over the weekend. Getting plus money or even a low line (if it changes) is a gift, and one I’ll gladly take with Atlanta on Monday.
