TV: WGN

The Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs meet in game one of their three game set from Wrigley Field in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to rebound after losing three straight and six of their last 8 games following a 6-1 loss in their series finale with San Francisco on Sunday. The Phillies scored only one run in the entire three game set with the Giants, and it came from a pitcher as starting hurler Jake Arrieta hit a solo homer. Cesar Hernandez, Odubel Herrera, Carlos Santana, Nick Williams and Maikel Franco each had base hits as well as Philadelphia put up just six hits as a team in the loss. Speaking of Arrieta, he took the loss, falling to 5-3 this season after giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Zach Eflin will start game one and is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. In his career, Eflin is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA and 1 strikeout against the Cubs.

Chicago Cubs vs. Philadelphia Phillies - 6/5/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs will look to stay hot after winning four straight and seven of their last eight games following their four game sweep of the Mets, including a 2-0 win in their series finale on Sunday. Ben Zobrist put up an RBI while Addison Russell contributed a double. Albert Almora Jr., Javier Baez, Willson Contreras and Kyle Schwarber each had base hits as well in the winning effort. Jon Lester got the win after throwing seven shutout innings, giving up just a pair of hits while striking out seven. Brian Duensing notched his first save of the season by closing out the 9th. Kyle Hendricks will start game one and is 4-4 with a 3.19 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. This will be Hendricks’ first career start against Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is 3-11 in Eflin’s last 14 starts and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 6-2-2 in their last 10 games against the NL Central. Chicago is 5-1 in Hendricks’ last 6 starts against the NL East and 4-0 in their last 4 games overall while the under is 17-1 in Hendricks’ last 18 Tuesday starts. Philadelphia is 4-9 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams and 1-6 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Chicago.

This is a lot of money to leave on the table considering that Philadelphia has been very good this season. However, the Phillies have forgotten how to hit all of a sudden, while the Cubs are red hot and are pushing for the division lead. Chicago has won 11 of their last 16 games, and all 11 wins have been by 2 or more runs, so I’ll back the Cubs on the run line until the Phillies show that they’re capable of scoring runs again.
