The Colorado Rockies and the Cincinnati Reds meet in game one of a three game set in MLB action from Great American Ballpark on Tuesday.

The Colorado Rockies will look to bounce back and snap a four game losing streak following a 10-7 loss in their series finale against the Dodgers on Sunday. Ian Desmond led the Rockies with three RBIs, going 1 for 3 with a home run, while Trevor Story had a double and two RBIs. Nolan Arenado added an RBI and two hits of his own, while Charlie Blackmon went 2 for 5 at the dish. DJ LeMahieu and Gerardo Parra each had a base hit as well in the losing effort for the Rockies. Chad Bettis gave up five runs on seven hits, striking out six over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Scott Oberg blew his 2nd save of the season while Wade Davis took the loss, falling to 0-1 this season. Kyle Freeland will start game one and is 5-5 with a 3.43 ERA and 55 strikeouts this season. In his career, Freeland is 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA and 4 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies - 6/5/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds need a win after losing their series against San Diego, dropping the final two games of the set, including a 6-3 loss in the series finale on Sunday. Scooter Gennett led the Reds with two RBIs, going 2 for 4 with a home run, while Eugenio Suarez added a solo homer to round out Cincinnati’s scoring in the loss. Joey Votto went 3 for 5 with a triple while Jesse Winker went 2 for 5 at the plate. Tucker Barnhart, Adam Duvall, Jose Peraza and Scott Schebler each had base hits as well in the losing effort for the Reds. Luis Castillo took the loss, falling to 4-6 this season after giving up four runs on six hits while striking out three over 4.2 inning of work. Anthony DeSclafani will start game one and is making his regular season debut in this one. In 2016, DeSclafani was 9-5 with a 3.28 ERA and 105 strikeouts. In his career, DeSclafani is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA and 5 strikeouts against Colorado.

Colorado is 4-1 in Freeland’s last 5 starts and 1-4 in their last 5 road games while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games overall. Cincinnati is 9-25 in their last 34 home games and 23-49 in their last 72 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against the NL West. The under is 7-0 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

It’s hard enough to back a starter making his regular season debut this late into this season. It’s even harder when you have a guy like DeSclafani who hasn’t pitched since 2016 and his first start is against a Colorado team with a ton of pop in their bats. The Rockies got swept by the Dodgers but only because their pitching staff couldn’t keep crooked numbers off of the board. I expect Freeland to put forth a good outing and help the Rockies get back to winning ways as they draw first blood on Tuesday.
