The Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals go head-to-head in game one of their three game set from Busch Stadium in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Miami Marlins need a win after losing six straight games and nine of their last 10 following a 6-1 loss to Arizona in their series finale on Sunday. Justin Your hit a double while accounting for the team’s lone run on the board in the loss. Brian Anderson went 2 for 4 with a double as well, while Lewis Brunson added a two-bagger of his own in the losing effort. Starlin Castro and Derek Dietrich each added a base hit to cap off the offense for the Fish in the losing effort. Dan Straily took the loss, falling to 2-2 this season after giving up one run on two hits while walking five and striking out four over 4.1 innings of work. Jose Urena will start game one and is 0-7 with a 4.41 ERA and 58 strikeouts this season. In his career, Urena is 1-1 with an 8.16 ERA and 13 strikeouts against St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to build some steam after salvaging a series split with Pittsburgh, taking the series finale by a final score of 5-0 on Sunday. Marcela Ozuna went 1 for 3 with four RBIs, with his lone hit leaving the park. Yairo Munoz added an RBI as well to round out the scoring for St. Louis in the win, while Tommy Pham went 2 for 4, and Jose Martinez and Kolten Wong each had a base hit as St. Louis put up just six hits as a team in the win. Michael Wacha got the win to improve to 7-1 this season after carrying a no-hitter into the 8th inning, allowing just one hit to lead off the 9th, striking out eight in the win. Carlos Martinez will start game one and is 3-2 with 1.62 ERA and 47 strikeouts this season. In his career, Martinez is 2-1 with a 5.04 ERA and 25 strikeouts against Miami.

Miami is 4-17 in Urena’s last 21 starts and 2-10 in their last 12 games against the NL Central while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. St. Louis is 6-1 in Martinez’s last 7 starts and 27-13 in their last 40 games against the NL East while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 home games. The over is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams.

Martinez hasn’t pitched in almost a month, so there is some concern for rust here. However, there’s no backing Miami in their current form, as the team simply can’t score and Urena has had no luck on the mound this season. St. Louis can be good offensively, and during this stretch that Miami has lost 9 of their last 10, 8 of those losses have been by two runs or more, so I’ll back St. Louis to keep their momentum going on the run line as more of a fade from Miami.
