For Wednesday’s outing, the Dodgers will be going with LHP Caleb Ferguson. This will be Ferguson’s MLB debut after going 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA in the minors this year.
Tops in hitting for the Dodgers this year is Matt Kemp with 62 hits, 23 runs and 33 RBI entering this series. On Tuesday, Kemp posted a hit, an RBI and a run.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they’re going with Trevor Williams on Wednesday. In his 68.0 innings and 5-3 record this season, Williams has a 3.84 ERA with 47 Ks and 22 BBs.
Pittsburgh’s leading hitter on the season is Corey Dickerson, who came into this series with 65 hits, 26 runs and 32 RBI. In the Tuesday game Dickerson posted a pair of hits.
The Dodgers are 4-1 in their last five Wednesday games and the over is 4-0-2 in their last six in game two of a series. The over is 6-2 in LA’s last eight Wednesday games and they’re 8-0 in the last eight road games.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games and 6-1 in Williams’ last seven starts with five days’ rest. Pittsburgh is also 5-1 in Williams’ last six home starts with five days’ rest and 5-1 in his last six home starts versus a team with a losing record.
It’s been a tough stretch of games for Williams, who has given up nine earned on 16 hits over his last two starts in a span of 9.0 innings. Williams has given up at least four earned in four of his last five starts. I’m not thrilled about the Pirates’ chances here so I’m sticking with the Dodgers. It will also be fun to see what Ferguson can do, and that will be the most intriguing part of this matchup.
