The Oakland A’s and the Texas Rangers duke it out in the finale of their mini two game set from Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas on Wednesday in MLB action.

The Oakland A’s will look to bounce back and salvage a series split after dropping the opener of the series by a final score of 7-4 on Tuesday. Khris Davis and Matt Olson each had two RBIs, with Davis going 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, while Olson hit 3 for 5 at the plate in the loss. Jed Lowrie and Chad Pinder each had a double, while Mark Canha, Stephen Piscotty and Jonathan Lucroy each had a base hit as well in the losing effort for Oakland. Sean Manaea gave up two runs on four hits over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Yusmeiro Petit received his 2nd blown save of the season, while Lou Trivino took the loss to fall to 3-1 this season. Daniel Mengden will start game two and is 6-4 with a 2.91 ERA and 48 strikeouts this season. In his career, Mengden is 1-2 with a 3.09 ERA and 22 strikeouts against Texas.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers will look to complete the sweep after taking the series opener on Tuesday. All of Texas’ damage on the scoreboard was done with the long ball, as Shin-Soo Choo and Joey Gallo each hit two run homers, while Adrian Beltre, Jurickson Profar and Robinson Chirinos each hit solo shots. Rougned Odor added a pair of hits while Delino DeShields added a base hit of his own in the win. Matt Moore gave up three runs on eight hits, not factoring in the decision. Chris Martin got the win to improve to 1-1 this season, while Keone Kela struck out the side in the 9th for his 14th save of the year. Bartolo Colon will start game two and is 2-3 with a 4.21 ERA and 44 strikeouts this season. In his career, Colon is 9-6 with a 3.33 ERA and 95 strikeouts against Oakland.

Oakland is 4-0 in Mengden’s last 4 starts and 6-2 in their last 8 road games while the over is 5-2-2 in Mengden’s last 9 division starts. Texas is 13-27 in their last 40 home games and 9-22 in their last 31 home games against a right-handed starter while the under is 4-1-1 in Colon’s last 6 starts. Oakland is 12-6 in the last 18 meetings between these two teams.

Texas and the plus money at home is tempting considering the momentum Texas has after staging that comeback in the opener on Tuesday. However, Colon has given up six runs in two of his last three starts, and that won’t fly given how Oakland has started to find their groove offensively. Add in the fact that Oakland tends to do well with Mengden on the mound, and I think you have to lean Oakland’s way to salvage a split on Wednesday.
