Up at Wrigley Field on Friday evening, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Pirates are coming off a set against the Dodgers. After splitting the first pair of games, on Thursday Pittsburgh lost a tough one 8-7.

In the Friday game, the Pirates will be sending out RHP Chad Kuhl. In his 67.2 innings and 4-3 record this year, Kuhl has a 3.86 ERA with 63 Ks and 25 BBs.
Corey Dickerson is way out front for the Pirates, carrying 70 hits, 30 runs and 32 RBI into the Dodgers finale. On Thursday, Dickerson had a hit and a run.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re coming off a series against the Phillies. Chicago split the first pair of those games, then on Thursday the Cubs eked out a 4-3 win.
Chicago will be sending out Mike Montgomery in the Friday game. Across 37.0 innings and a 1-1 record this year, Montgomery has a 3.89 ERA with 24 Ks and 11 BBs.
The Cubs’ top hitter this year is Kris Bryant, who had 61 hits, 34 runs and 28 RBI entering play Thursday. In that game, Bryant had one hit and one RBI.
The Pirates are 5-1 in their last six Friday games and 1-4 in their last five in game one of a series. Pittsburgh is also 3-9 in Kuhl’s last 12 road starts and 0-4 in his last four Friday starts.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 4-0 in their last four Friday games and 10-4 in their last 14 in game one of a series. Chicago is also 7-3 in Montgomery’s last 10 starts and 1-4 in his last five home starts.
Over the last three games, Kuhl has a trio of quality starts to his credit with four combined earned runs. As for Montgomery, he had a bad outing against the Indians but since then has allowed just one earned in his last 11.2 innings. This should be a decent matchup on the hill, but all in all I have to go with the Cubs.
