We have some MLB action from Citizens’ Bank Park on Friday as the Milwaukee Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies kick off a three game weekend set.
The Milwaukee Brewers will be looking to snap a three game losing streak after being swept in a mini two game set with Cleveland, losing the finale by a final score of 3-1 on Wednesday. Travis Shaw accounted for the lone Milwaukee RBI in the loss, while Christian Yelich went 2 for 4 with a double. Lorenzo Cain and Erik Kratz each had a pair of hits while Jonathan Villar and Eric Sogard each contributed base hits as well in the losing effort. Chase Anderson took the loss, falling to 4-5 this season after giving up all three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out four over 4.1 innings of work. Jhoulys Chacin will start game one and is 4-1 with a 3.39 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. In his career, Chacin is 3-1 with a 2.13 ERA and 32 strikeouts against Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Phillies are in need of a win as well after losing five of their last six games after losing the rubber match of their three game set with the Cubs on Thursday by a final score of 4-3. Scott Kingery led the Phils with a two run double, while Carlos Santana added an RBI of his own to round out Philly’s scoring in the loss. Andrew Knapp, Odubel Herrera, J.P. Crawford and Jesmuel Valentin each had a base knock as well to cap off the Phillies’ offense in the loss. Nick Pivetta took the loss, falling to 4-5 on the year, giving up all four runs on six hits while striking out six over five innings of work. Vince Velasquez will start the series opener and is 4-6 with a 3.82 ERA and 79 strikeouts this season. In his career, Velasquez is 0-0 with a 4.15 ERA and 6 strikeouts against Milwaukee.
Milwaukee is 8-1 in Chacin’s last 9 starts and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 25-6 in their last 31 road games against a team with a winning record. Philadelphia is 5-13 in Velasquez’s last 18 home starts and 1-5 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 home games against a team with a winning record. Milwaukee is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings between these two teams in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia, while starting the year strong, is starting to falter a bit, and we saw that in their series against San Francisco getting swept and losing the last two games against the Cubs. On top of that, Velasquez hasn’t been very reliable for the Phillies dating back a year or two now. Milwaukee has had struggles of their own, but are still playing well enough to lead their division, and have Chacin on the mound who has been pretty good for the Brewers this season, so I’ll take a stab at Milwaukee and the plus money to draw first blood on Friday.
