David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds will look to exorcise their demons and avoid the sweep after yet another loss to the Cardinals in game two on Saturday. Eugenio Suarez led the Reds with two RBIs, thanks to a two run home run. Jesse Winker added a solo home run, while Scott Schebler went 1 for 5 with a double and an RBI to round out Cincinnati’s scoring in the loss. Joey Votto, Adam Duvall and Jose Peraza each had a double, while Scooter Gennett and Curt Casali each had a base hit in the losing effort. Luis Castillo took the loss, falling to 4-7 this season after giving up five runs on four hits while striking out ten over six innings of work. Anthony DeSclafani will start game three and is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA and 5 strikeouts this season. In his career, DeSclafani is 4-1 with a 2.13 ERA and 34 strikeouts against St. Louis.

St. Louis is 6-0 in Martinez’s last 6 division starts and 4-1 in their last 5 Sunday games while the under is 22-4-1 in their last 27 game 3 matchups. Cincinnati is 1-4 in DeSclafani’s last 5 starts and 10-28 in their last 38 home games while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 Sunday games. St. Louis is 11-1 in the last 12 meetings between these two teams in Cincinnati, 8-2 in Martinez’s last 10 starts against Cincinnati and 5-1 in Martinez’s last 6 road starts against the Reds.

The reason why I backed St. Louis on Saturday is why I’m going to do it again here. Sure, DeSclafani has had success in the past against the Cardinals, but he looked shaky in his debut, the Reds haven’t had much success with him on the mound lately, and the Cardinals simply have Cincinnati’s number. Martinez doesn’t have dominant numbers like Wacha against the Reds, but his stats and record are still pretty good and we are getting a very good price here, so I’ll lay the juice with St. Louis for the sweep.
