The San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins meet in the rubber match of their three game set from Marlins Park in MLB action on Sunday.
The San Diego Padres will look to win the series after evening the set up at one win each following a 5-4 win in game two on Saturday. Freddy Galvis led San Diego with two RBIs, going 2 for 4 with a solo home run and a double, while Travis Jankowski and Cory Spangenberg each went 2 for 5 with an RBI as well. Hunter Renfroe added a pinch-hit double, while Eric Hosmer, Jose Pirela, Franmil Reyes, Manuel Margot and starting pitcher Tyson Ross each added base hits as well in the win. Ross gave up all four runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out seven over 5.1 innings of work. Craig Stammen got the win to improve to 4-0 this season while Kirby Yates got his 2nd save of the year. Clayton Richard will start the finale and is 4-6 with a 4.67 ERA and 66 strikeouts this season. In his career, Richard is 3-2 with a 2.76 ERA and 34 strikeouts against Miami.

The Miami Marlins will look to rebound after dropping game two on Saturday. Derek Dietrich went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and two RBIs, while Starlin Castro and Justin Bour each had a double. Brian Anderson went 2 for 4 at the plate while Miguel Rojas added a base hit as well to cap off Miami’s offense in defeat. Dan Straily gave up four runs on nine hits while striking out four over 3.2 innings of work, not factoring into the decision. Drew Rucinski took the loss, falling to 1-1 this season. Jose Urena will start game three and is 1-7 with a 4.60 ERA and 61 strikeouts this season. In his career, Urena is 0-2 with a 3.24 ERA and 14 strikeouts against San Diego.
San Diego is 4-1 in Richard’s last 5 starts and 8-3 in their last 11 games overall while the over is 4-1-1 in Richard’s last 6 road starts. Miami is 4-17 in Urena’s last 21 starts and 1-7 in their last 8 games against the NL West while the under is 5-2 in Urena’s last 7 home starts. San Diego is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Miami.
Urena finally got that elusive first win, but I need to see more positive signs before instilling any faith in him as a pitcher, and lets face it, the Marlins are a bad baseball team. The Padres have been playing some of their best ball so far this season, and Richard has been more reliable than Urena, and we’re getting even money, so I’ll take my chances with San Diego on the road to win the series.
