The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers meet in game one of their three game AL Central division set from Target Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Minnesota Twins will look to build some steam after avoiding a sweep at the hands of the Angels, taking the series finale by a final score of 7-5 on Sunday. Jake Cave led Minnesota, going 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Logan Morrison added a home run of his own, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while Eduardo Escobar added a pair of doubles with an RBI and Ehire Adrianza added an RBI of his own to round out the Twins’ scoring, going 1 for 3 with a triple. Mitch Garver went 2 for 4 with a double while Robbie Grossman added a base knock as well to cap off Minnesota’s offense in the victory. Fernando Romero got the win to improve to 3-2 this season after giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Jake Odorizzi will start game one and is 3-3 with a 4.24 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. In his career, Odorizzi is 2-1 with a 2.28 ERA and 28 strikeouts against Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers will look to find some consistent play after alternating wins and losses in each of their last five games, including a 9-2 loss in their series finale against Cleveland on Sunday. Leonys Martin led Detroit with two RBIs, going 1 for 4 with a home run, while John Hicks went 2 for 3, JaCoby Jones added a double and Jeimer Candelario chipped in a base hit as well in the losing effort. Artie Lewicki took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season after giving up three runs on six hits while striking out four over five innings of work. Blaine Hardy will start game one and is 2-1 with a 3.66 ERA and 22 strikeouts this season. This will be Hardy’s second career start against Minnesota.
Minnesota is 1-6 in their last 7 road games and 5-2 in their last 7 division matchups while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games overall. Detroit is 20-42 in their last 62 division matchups and 6-2 in their last 8 games following a loss while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. Minnesota is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Detroit.
This is a hard one to pick as you have a pair of teams who are struggling with a pair of question marks on the mound. Odorizzi has struggled, giving up 13 runs in his last 14 innings over three starts, while Hardy has pitched well in a starting role, but gave up five runs in his last start against Boston. In situations like this, I’d rather be on the side where the value is. Sure, it’s not hefty juice to lay with Detroit, but Minnesota has had the bulk of the success when these two teams meet and are at even money, so I’ll side with Minnesota to draw first blood on Tuesday.
