Down at O.co Coliseum on Tuesday evening, the Houston Astros and the Oakland Athletics will be meeting up to kick off their MLB series.
The Astros just finished up against the Rangers this weekend. Houston swept that series, winning 5-2, 7-3, 4-3 and 8-7.

For Tuesday’s game, the Astros will be going with RHP Lance McCullers. In his 75.1 innings and 7-3 record this year, McCullers has a 3.94 ERA with 76 Ks and 29 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Astros this year is the talented Jose Altuve, with 93 hits, 40 runs and 34 RBI. George Springer is playing well also with 77 hits, 51 runs, 14 homers and 41 RBI.
Over on the A’s side, they’re coming off a series versus the Royals. Oakland took three of those four games, with their lone loss coming 2-0 on Saturday.
As for Oakland, they’re going with Daniel Mengden on Tuesday. Mengden has a 3.45 ERA with 51 Ks and 11 BBs in 78.1 innings with a 6-5 record.
Oakland’s top hitter this season is Jed Lowrie with 72 hits, 25 runs, nine homers and 42 RBI. Marcus Semien is second on the team with 70 hits, 38 runs and 25 RBI so far.
The Astros are 5-0 in their last five overall and 19-7 in their last 26 road games. Houston is also 4-1 in McCullers’ last five starts and 4-1 in his last five Tuesday starts.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 4-1 in their last five home games and 1-5 in their last six Tuesday games. Oakland is 5-1 in Mengden’s last six home starts and 4-1 in his last five starts.
McCullers really only has one bad start since April, with seven earned against Cleveland in 4.1 innings back on May 26; other than that he’s been great. As for Mengden, he had a pretty good run of games going before giving up six earned in 4.0 innings in Texas his last time up. Houston is playing pretty well right now, and I think they’ll keep it going here. I’ll take the Astros.
