The Cleveland Indians and the Chicago White Sox square off in game three of a four game AL Central division set from Guaranteed Rate Field in MLB action on Wednesday.
The Cleveland Indians will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Tuesday by a final score of 5-1. Jose Ramirez accounted for the lone RBI for Cleveland, going 1 for 3 with a double and a sac fly RBI. Francisco Lindor added a pair of doubles and Yonder Alonso added a two-bagger as well, while Michael Brantley added a base hit of his own to cap off Cleveland’s offense in the loss. Adam Pluto took his first loss of the season, giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out five over 4.2 innings of work. Trevor Bauer will start game three and is 5-4 with a 2.62 ERA and 109 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bauer is 6-2 with a 3.55 ERA and 89 strikeouts against the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox will look to build some steam after evening up the series at one win apiece with their victory on Tuesday. Matt Davidson led the White Sox with two RBIs, going 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles. Omar Narvaez went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Yoan Moncada and Yolmer Sanchez each added a solo home run to round out Chicago’s scoring in the win. Charlie Tilson and Adam Engel each added a base hit of their own in the winning effort for the White Sox. James Shields got the win to climb to 2-7 this season after giving up one run on four hits over seven innings of work, while Joakim Soria notched his 9th save of the year. Dylan Covey will start game three and is 2-1 with a 2.22 ERA and 28 strikeouts this season. This will be Covey’s second career start against Cleveland.
Cleveland is 4-1 in Bauer’s last 5 starts and 20-7 in their last 27 game 3 matchups while the under is 36-9-6 in Bauer’s last 51 road starts. Chicago is 0-6 in Covey’s last 6 division starts and 8-22 in their last 30 Wednesday games while the under is 18-7-3 in their last 28 games overall. Cleveland is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams, 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Chicago and 5-1 in Bauer’s last 6 starts against the White Sox.
The plus money is extremely tempting because the White Sox have been giant killers over the last week and Covey has looked decent so far this season. However, the White Sox have had zero luck against the rest of the division with Covey on the mound, and Bauer has been the type of pitcher to shut me up and make me eat my words every time I go against him. Given Bauer’s success against Chicago and Cleveland’s dominance of the White Sox as a whole, I’ll go with Cleveland to retake the series lead and to negate the heavy juice, I’ll take Cleveland on the run line.
