Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins - 6/13/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Tigers could use a feel good win here after losing seven of their last 10 games. The Tigers have allowed 17 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 11 games. The Detroit Tigers have lost seven straight games when allowing more than two runs. Offensively, Nicholas Castellanos leads the Tigers with 84 hits and 34 RBI while Jose Iglesias and Jeimer Candelario have combined for 114 hits and 54 RBI. Matthew Boyd gets the ball, and he is 4-4 with a 3.20 ERA and 54 strikeouts this season. Boyd is 5-3 with a 4.01 ERA and 60 strikeouts in his career against the Twins.

The Twins are 1-4 in their last 5 during game 2 of a series, 3-13 in Berrios' last 16 road starts and 4-1 in Berrios' last 5 starts. The Tigers are 8-17 in their last 25 Wednesday games, 5-0 in Boyds last 5 home starts and 5-1 in Boyds last 6 starts. The Twins are 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Detroit, 9-2 in the last 11 meetings and the Tigers are 0-4 in Boyds last 4 starts vs. Twins.

Berrios has been probably the most consistent pitcher this season for the Twins, but he has really no road success in terms of wins dating back to last season. Boyd has allowed two or less runs in four of his last five starts and is giving up just a .205 batting average this season.  The Twins need to take advantage of a series like this if they're going to get back in the thick of things, but there's value with the Tigers at home and the plus money. Boyd has been good enough to like as an underdog.
