The Cincinnati Reds and the Kansas City Royals square off in the finale of their mini two game set from Kauffman Stadium in MLB action on Wednesday.

The Cincinnati Reds will look to complete the mini two game sweep after rallying to win game one by a final score of 5-1 in 10 innings on Tuesday. Tucker Barnhart tied the game in the 9th with a solo home run, while Joey Votto added a bases-clearing three run triple and Eugenio Suarez added an insurance run to round out the scoring for the Reds in the win. Scott Schebler went 2 for 5 at the dish while Jose Peraza added a base knock as well to cap off Cincy’s offense in the win. Sal Romano gave up the one run on four hits over eight innings of work, not factoring in the decision, while David Hernandez got the win to improve to 2-0 this season. Tyler Mahle will start game two and is 4-6 with a 4.33 ERA and 67 strikeouts this season. This will be Mahle’s first career start against Kansas City.

Kansas City Royals vs. Cincinnati Reds - 6/13/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Royals will look to salvage a series split after losing game one on Tuesday. Hunter Dozier’s solo home run was the lone scoring KC would do in the loss, while Whit Merrifield went 2 for 4 and Salvador Perez added a base hit of his own as Kansas City mustered up just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Ian Kennedy threw eight shutout innings, striking out five, not factoring in the decision. Kelvin Herrera received his 2nd blown save of the year, while Kevin McCarthy took the loss to fall to 4-3 this season. Jason Hammel will start game two and is 2-6 with a 5.12 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hammel is 4-1 with a 3.42 ERA and 63 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati is 4-1 in Mahle’s last 5 road starts and 2-5 in their last 7 road games while the over is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games overall. Kansas City is 1-4 in Hammel’s last 5 home starts and 10-22 in their last 32 home games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games against the NL Central. Cincinnati is 1-5 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

Hammel has had success against Cincinnati, but that was with a better offense behind him than the one he has now in Kansas City. Not to mention, that aside from a pair of shutouts a couple of weeks ago, Hammel has allowed no less than three runs in seven of his last nine starts. Mahle has been up and down, but I think the Reds have enough going for them to complete the sweep on Wednesday.
