Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

For the Wednesday game, the Padres will be bringing out lefty Eric Lauer for the start. In his 39.1 innings and 2-4 record this year, Lauer has a 6.64 ERA with 38 Ks and 24 BBs.

Jose Pirela is the Padres’ leading hitter this season with 71 hits, 37 runs and 19 RBI entering game two. On Tuesday, Pirela had one hit.

Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re going with Luke Weaver on Wednesday. Over 68.1 innings and a 3-5 record this year, Weaver has a 4.35 ERA with 60 Ks and 25 BBs.

Coming into Tuesday, Jose Martinez led the Cards with 74 hits, 31 runs, 10 homers and 42 RBI. In game two, Martinez went 0-for-4.

The Padres are 4-0 in their last four in game three of a series and 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games. San Diego is also 1-5 in Lauer’s last six starts and 0-5 in his last five road starts.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 5-1 in their last six home games versus a left-handed starter and 8-2 in Weaver’s last 10 starts versus a team with a losing record. The under is 23-4-1 in the Cardinals’ last 28 in game three of a series and 9-4-1 in Weaver’s last 14 home starts.

Lauer has had a couple of decent games over his last pair, with a combined four earned on 11 hits over 10.0 innings. As for Weaver, he gave up four earned in 5.0 innings on seven hits in his last outing. All things considered here, I have to stick with the Cardinals. The over wouldn’t be a crazy thought either.
