The Colorado Rockies and the Philadelphia Phillies square off in the rubber match of their three game MLB set from Citizen’s Bank Park on Thursday.

The Colorado Rockies will look to win the set after evening it up at one win apiece following a 7-2 win in game two on Wednesday. Trevor Story, Gerardo Parra and Ian Desmond each had two RBIs, with Story going 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles, while Desmond went 1 for 4 with a home run. Nolan Arenado added an RBI as well to cap off the Rockies’ scoring in the win. Charlie Blackmon and Carlos Gonzalez each had two hits, while DJ LeMahieu and Tom Murphy each added a base knock as well to round out Colorado’s offense in the win. Tyler Anderson got the win to improve to 4-1 this season after giving up one run on six hits while striking out six over seven innings of work. German Marquez will start game three and is 4-6 with a 4.79 ERA and 66 strikeouts this season. In his career, Marquez is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 6 strikeouts against Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to rebound and take the series after dropping game two on Wednesday. Jesmuel Valentin and Jorge Alfaro each hit a solo home run to cap off Philly’s scoring in the loss, with Valentin going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles as well in the losing effort. Rhys Hoskins, Carlos Santana and Nick Williams each contributed a base hit as well in the losing effort for the Phillies. Nick Pivetta took the loss, falling to 4-6 this season after giving up six runs on eight hits while striking out five over five innings of work. Vince Velasquez will start the finale and is 4-7 with a 4.95 ERA and 83 strikeouts this season. In his career, Velasquez is 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA and 23 strikeouts against Colorado.

Colorado is 5-2 in Marquez’s last 7 road starts and 1-5 in their last 6 games overall while the over is 10-1-2 in their last 13 games overall. Philadelphia is 0-4 in Velasquez’s last 4 starts and 3-7 in their last 10 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 home games. The over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Philadelphia and 8-3-1 in the last 12 meetings overall.

Plus money with the Rockies is tempting because Marquez stifled the Phillis in his lone career meeting with Philadelphia, but I’m not ready to back the Rockies after just one win. On the other hand, Philadelphia is starting to really cool off after their hot start to the year as well. Instead, I’m going to side with the over. It’s been a common trend when these two teams meet and the pitching matchup screams double digits. Marquez has allowed nine runs in his last two starts over ten innings of work, while Velasquez is fresh off of a start against the Brewers where he yielded ten earned runs over just 3.2 innings of work. Yeah, this total is too low.
