The Colorado Rockies and the Texas Rangers tangle in game one of their three game weekend interleague set from Globe Life Park in MLB action on Friday.

The Colorado Rockies are in dire need of a win after dropping six of their last seven games, including a 9-3 loss in the rubber match of their series against Philadelphia on Thursday. Ryan McMahon hit a solo shot for his first home run of the season, while Trevor Story added a double and an RBI and Gerardo Parra added a base hit and an RBI of his own as Colorado put up just three hits as a team in the loss. German Marquez took the loss, falling to 4-7 this season after giving up six runs on seven hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Chad Bettis will start game one and is 4-1 with a 4.40 ERA and 53 strikeouts this season. This will be Bettis’ second career start against Texas.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers will be out to snap a six game losing streak of their own after being swept by the Dodgers in a two game set, including a 3-2 loss in 11 innings on Wednesday. Jurickson Profar and Joey Gallo each had an RBI, while Adrian Beltre went 3 for 4 with a double and Shin-Soo Choo added a double of his own. Rougned Odor chipped in a base knock as well to cap off Texas’ offense in the losing effort. Cole Hamels gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits while walking four and striking out six over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jesse Chavez took the loss, falling to 2-1 this season. Yohander Ramirez will get the start in this one and is pitching for the first time since May 12th and only has 0.2 innings under his belt this season. This will be Mendez’s first career start against Colorado.

Colorado is 1-6 in their last 7 games overall and 4-1 in Bettis’ last 5 interleague starts while the over is 5-0-1 in their last 6 road games. Texas is 0-6 in their last 6 games overall and 0-4 in their last 4 home games while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 interleague games. Colorado is 1-5 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

You have two teams that are struggling and most times, the value is where you should look, and Texas as a home dog with even money is tempting. However, who knows what we will see from Mendez as he’s only pitched once this season and that was over a month ago. Colorado is struggling, but Bettis has pitched well this season and I trust Colorado’s offense more than I do Texas, so I’ll back the Rockies on Friday.
