The Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland A’s meet in game two of a three game AL West division set in MLB action on Saturday.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to build some momentum after snapping a four game losing streak with an 8-4 win in the series opener on Friday. Ian Kinsler led the Halos with two RBIs, going 1 for 4 with a solo home run. Mike Trout, Jose Miguel Fernandez and Jose Briceno each had an RBI as well, with Trout and Briceno each having three hits and Briceno adding a double as well. Justin Upton chipped in a base hit as well in the winning effort for the Angels. Tyler Skaggs got the win to improve to 6-4 this season, giving up just a pair of unearned runs on seven hits while striking out eight over seven innings of work. John Lamb will be making his regular season debut in this one after not having pitched since July 2016.

The Oakland A’s will look to rebound after being taken down in game one on Friday. Marcus Semien and Josh Phegley each had a double and an RBI, with Phegley going 2 for 4 at the dish. Jed Lowrie went 3 for 4 with a double and Stephen Piscotty went 2 for 4 with a two-bagger of his own, while Chad Pinder and Dustin Fowler each contributed base hits to round out the offense for Oakland in the loss. Chris Bassitt took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season after giving up six runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out three over four innings of work. Sean Manaea will start game two and is 5-6 with a 3.49 ERA and 64 strikeouts this season. In his career, Manaea is 1-3 with a 4.30 ERA and 26 strikeouts against the Angels.
Los Angeles is 1-4 in their last 5 road games and 2-5 in their last 7 Saturday games while the over is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games overall. Oakland is 1-5 in their last 6 games overall and 7-21 in their last 28 division matchups while the under is 8-1-1 in Manaea’s last 10 division starts. Oakland is 2-5 in Manaea’s last 7 starts against the Angels.
Los Angeles took game one, but if we are being realistic, I just don’t trust Bassitt as a starter, so I’m willing to give the A’s a free pass on that one. The A’s offense usually wakes up at home, and now get to take on a starter in Lamb who hasn’t been on the mound in the majors since 2016, and is sure to take some time to get into a rhythm. But even when Lamb was perfectly healthy, he gave up eight runs or more in two of his last three starts. Granted those starts came for the lowly Reds, but still. This should be game that Oakland can use to get back on track, and since we have a low line with Oakland, I’ll roll with it on Saturday.
