For Saturday’s game, the Nats will be bringing out RHP Max Scherzer. In his 94.2 innings and 10-2 record this season, Scherzer has a 2.00 ERA with 142 Ks and 22 BBs.
Leading the way in hitting for the Nationals this season is Trea Turner with 68 hits, 36 runs and 25 RBI entering this set. On Friday, Turner put up one hit and a run.
Over on the Jays’ side, they’re going with Marco Estrada on Saturday. Over 70.2 innings and a 3-6 record so far, Estrada has a 5.09 ERA with 57 Ks and 18 BBs.
Kevin Pillar led the Jays in hitting entering this series, bringing 66 hits, 33 runs and 27 RBI. In the opener, Pillar went 0-for-4.
The Nationals are 6-1 in their last seven in game two of a series and 11-4 in Scherzer’s last 15 Saturday starts. Washington is also 45-17 in Scherzer’s last 62 starts and 41-17 in his last 58 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Jays are 1-7 in their last eight in game two of a series and 1-8 in their last nine Saturday games. Toronto is also 4-1 in Estrada’s last five Saturday starts and 1-5 in his last six starts.
Scherzer has been on a tear this season, and after failing to register a quality start on May 25, he’s done so in his three starts since. Estrada has shown some promise lately also with three earned on 10 hits in 12.0 innings over his last two appearances. Still, with Scherzer going in this one, there’s no way I’m picking against the Nats.
