The Washington Nationals and the Toronto Blue Jays meet in the finale of their three game set from Rogers Centre in MLB action on Sunday afternoon.

The Washington Nationals will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping game two by a final score of 2-0 on Saturday. Michael A. Taylor went 2 for 3 at the dish while Trea Turner added a double as the Nats put up just three base hits as a team in the loss, with Turner drawing a walk and Anthony Rendon drawing a pair of walks as well in the loss. Max Scherzer took the loss, falling to 10-3 this season after giving up both runs on four hits while striking out ten over six innings of work. Tanner Roark will start game three and is 3-7 with a 3.63 ERA and 70 strikeouts this season. This will be Roark’s first career start against Toronto.

Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Blue Jays will look to complete what many would be a shocking upset of Washington after taking game two on Saturday. Devon Travis’ two-run home run, going 2 for 3 at the dish on the day, was all the scoring that the Jays would do in the win. Curtis Grandson and Kendrys Morales each logged a base hit as Toronto mustered up just four hits as a team in the win, while Teoscar Hernandez drew a walk as well. Marco Estrada got the win to climb to 4-6 this season after tossing 6.2 three hit shutout innings, striking out four. Tyler Clippard notched his 3rd save of the season by closing out the 9th. Sam Gaviglio will start the finale and is 2-2 with a 3.66 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gaviglio is 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA and 1 strikeout against Washington.

Washington is 3-7 in Roark’s last 10 road starts and 8-2 in their last 10 games against the AL East while the under is 13-4 in their last 17 games overall. Toronto is 1-4 in Gaviglio’s last 5 starts overall and 4-1 in their last 5 games against the NL East while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 interleague games.

I can understand why a lot of money is coming in on the Nationals as you rarely get the Nats at this low of a price against an average team like Toronto. However, I simply don’t trust Roark right now and while Gaviglio is coming off of his worst start for Toronto this season, overall he hasn’t pitched that bad and Toronto has looked good in taking the first two games of the set and definitely has the confidence to win all three, so I would take a chance on Toronto to complete the sweep with a win on Sunday.
