The Detroit Tigers and the Cincinnati Reds meet in the opener of a mini two game set from Great American Ballpark in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Detroit Tigers will look to stay hot after five straight wins, including a 3-1 win in their series finale on Sunday. Nick Castellanos went 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs, while Jose Iglesias added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for Detroit in the win. JaCoby Jones went 2 for 3 while Leonys Martin and Niko Goodrum each added a double to round out Detroit’s offense in the win. Blaine Hardy got the win to improve to 3-1 this season after giving up the lone run on six hits while striking out three over 5.1 innings of work. Joe Jimenez picked up his 2nd save of the year by striking out the side in the 9th. Matt Boyd will start the opener and is 4-4 with a 3.23 ERA and 59 strikeouts this season. This will be Boyd’s first career start against Cincinnati.

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds will look to build some momentum after avoiding a sweep at the hands of Pittsburgh, winning the series finale on Sunday by a final score of 8-6. Scott Schebler led the Reds with three RBIs, going 1 for 4 with a home run, while Eugenio Suarez went 1 for 5 with a homer of his own and two RBIs. Joey Votto went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while Jose Peraza added an RBI as well to round out the scoring for Cincinnati in the win. Billy Hamilton went 3 for 4 and Curt Casali went 2 for 4 while Scooter Gennett and starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani each contributed a base hit as well in the winning effort. DeSclafani got the win after giving up two runs on three hits while striking out four over 5.2 innings of work. Raisel Iglesias notched his 10th save of the season by closing out the 9th. Sal Romano will start game one and is 3-7 with a 5.67 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. This will be Romano’s first career start against Detroit.

Detroit is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall and 4-0 in Boyd’s last 4 starts while the over is 20-7 in their last 27 games against the NL Central. Cincinnati is 11-29 in their last 40 home games and 14-37 in their last 51 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Cincinnati.

I know the Reds are at home here and their bats woke up in the finale against Pittsburgh. But are we really going to pass up this kind of plus money with Detroit? It’s not like home field has helped the Reds dating back to last season, and Detroit comes into this one in better form over the last week. Romano held the Royals to just one run in his last outing, but his previous five starts before that saw him give up at least four runs in each, giving up 27 runs over 22.2 innings. Boyd’s been much more consistent, giving up two runs or less in five of his last six starts, so given all of that, I think the Tigers and the plus money are one of the better value bets on Tuesday.
