The Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals meet in game two of their three game set from Kauffman Stadium in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Texas Rangers will look to keep their momentum going after winning three straight following a series opening 6-3 win over the Royals on Monday. Adrian Beltre led Texas with three RBIs, going 1 for 5 with a home run, while Shin-Soo Choo added a solo homer, going 2 for 2 with a double and three walks. Nomar Mazara went 3 for 5 and Delino DeShields went 2 for 4 with each notching an RBI as well to round out the Texas offense in the win. Bartolo Colon got the win after giving up all three runs on nine hits over six innings of work, while Keone Kela notched his 16th save of the year. Cole Hamels will start game two and is 3-6 with a 3.69 ERA and 85 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hamels is 3-2 with a 3.51 ERA and 28 strikeouts against Kansas City.

The Kansas City Royals need a win after losing seven straight and 13 of their last 14 games following the loss on Monday. Mike Moustakas, Rosell Herrera and Adalberto Mondesi each had an RBI, with Herrera adding a triple and Mondesi a double. Whit Merrifield, Alex Gordon, Salvador Perez, Hunter Dozier, Alcides Escobar and Abraham Almonte each had a base hit as all nine Royals had one hit in the losing effort. Ian Kennedy fell to 1-7 with the loss after giving up five runs on four hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Jason Hammel will start game two and is 2-7 with a 4.89 ERA and 55 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hammel is 2-4 with a 5.24 ERA and 23 strikeouts against Texas.
Texas is 31-10 in Hamels’ last 41 starts against a team with a losing record and 10-21 in their last 31 games following a win while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games against the AL Central. Kansas City is 1-5 in Hammel’s last 6 home starts and 10-28 in their last 38 home games while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 games against a left-handed starter. Texas is 4-1 in Hamels’ last 5 starts against Kansas City.
Neither of these two pitchers are ones worth backing as of late. However, the Royals are flat out unbackable right now, losing 13 of 14 and just struggling at the plate and struggling to keep runs off of the board, an issue Hammel hasn’t done much to help with. Hamels has been up and down as well, but Texas has a history of feasting on teams with losing records with him on the mound over the years and are playing better baseball as of late, so I’ll lay the juice with Texas on the road, even if the price is steeper than I would like. There’s no backing Kansas City at all.
