For Tuesday’s game, the Mariners will be going with LHP Marco Gonzales in the start. Over his 79.0 innings and 7-3 record this year, Gonzales has a 3.42 ERA with 69 Ks and 19 BBs.
Jean Segura is having a great year for the Mariners, and he’s way out front statistically with 98 hits, 52 runs and 44 RBI. Dee Gordon is also playing well on 74 hits, 31 runs and 15 RBI.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they just played 1.5 makeup games versus the Nats on Monday. In those matchups, New York dropped the half game but won the nightcap 4-2.
For Tuesday’s game, the Yanks will be going with Domingo German in the start. Across his 53.1 innings and 1-4 record this year, German has a 5.23 ERA with 63 Ks and 21 walks.
Coming out of the weekend, Aaron Judge led the Yankees on 69 hits, 49 runs, 18 homers and 46 RBI. On Monday, Judge went 0-for-3 but walked twice and made a sensational catch in right field to end the night game.
The Mariners are 7-1 in their last eight in game one of a series and 7-1 in their last eight Tuesday games. Seattle si also 5-0 in Gonzales’ last five starts and 4-1 in his last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 6-1 in their last seven Tuesday games and 22-8 in their last 30 games versus a left-handed starter. New York is also 36-17 in their last 53 in game one of a series and 13-6 in the last 19 versus the AL West.
Gonzales has ben pitching pretty well lately, with a string of four quality starts stretching from May to June in which he allowed just four earned. Gonzales won all four of those games, but had to settle for a no-decision his last time up with three earned on seven hits in 5.0 innings versus the Angels. This should be an interesting matchup and a fun one to watch, but with Gonzales on the mound I think this is a good opportunity for Seattle to get a win, so they're not a bad value pick here.
