The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs meet in the finale of their three game set from Wrigley Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to rebound after failing to complete the doubleheader sweep of the Cubs on Tuesday, winning game one by a final score of 4-3, before dropping game two in ten innings by a final score of 2-1. In game one, Kyle Farmer hit a two-run pinch-hit double, while Joc Peterson hit a solo shot and Yasiel Puig added an RBI as well. Edward Paredes ended up with the win while Kenley Jansen closed out the 9th for his 18th save of the year. In game two, Austin Barnes’ RBI single was the lone run the Dodgers would put on the board as Brock Stewart ended up with the loss. Ross Stripling will start game three and is 6-1 with a 1.76 ERA and 78 strikeouts this season. This will be Stripling’s first career start against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs will look to finish strong after earning a split in the doubleheader on Tuesday. In game one, Kris Bryant went 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while Anthony Rizzo added a run on the board as well. Justin Wilson ended up with the loss and the blown save, falling to 1-2 this season. In game two, Kyle Schwarber tied the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the 7th before Albert Almora Jr. walked the Dodgers off with an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th. Rob Zastryzny ended up with the win to improve to 1-0 this season. Jon Lester will start game three and is 8-2 with a 2.28 ERA and 69 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lester is 2-3 with a 3.89 ERA and 44 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 22-7 in their last 29 games overall and 11-1 in their last 12 road games against a team with a winning record while the under is 14-4-1 in their last 19 games against the NL Central. Chicago is 1-4 in their last 5 Wednesday games and 1-4 in their last 5 home games against a team with a winning road record while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 home games. Los Angeles is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
Lester has been rolling right now, giving up two runs or less in eight of his last nine starts, with the Cubs winning seven of those games. However, I just have this feeling that the Dodgers will escape with the win on Wednesday. Stripling’s luck may run out sooner rather than later, and this slid start can’t last forever, but the Dodgers are still playing really well right now and are worth a look with the plus money on Wednesday.
