The Los Angeles Dodgers come into this one looking to rebound after losing the rubber match of their series with the Cubs by a final score of 4-0 on Wednesday. Enrique Hernandez went 2 for 3 with a double while Chris Taylor and Max Muncy each had a two-bagger as well. Logan Forsythe and Yasiel Puig each chipped in a base hit as well in the losing effort for the Dodgers. Ross Stripling took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out seven over six innings of work, dropping to 6-2 on the year. Alex Wood will start game one and is 2-5 with a 4.22 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. In his career, Wood is 0-3 with a 3.94 ERA and 49 strikeouts against the Mets.

The New York Mets are in dire need of a win after losing 21 of their last 28 games, including a 6-4 loss to Colorado in their series finale on Thursday. Todd Frazier hit a solo homer, while Brandon Nimmo, Wilmer Flores and Jose Reyes each added an RBI as well in the losing effort. Kevin Plawecki went 2 for 4 with a triple while Dominic Smith went 2 for 2 with a double. Michael Conforto added two hits as well, while Amed Rosario added a base knock to cap off the Mets’ offense in the loss. Steven Matz took the loss, falling to 3-5 this season after giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings of work. Zack Wheeler will start game one and is 2-5 with a 4.82 ERA and 72 strikeouts this season. This will be Wheeler’s second career start against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 8-0 in their last 8 series opening matchups and 13-6 in Wood’s last 19 road starts while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. New York is 0-6 in Wheeler’s last 6 home starts and 17-35 in their last 52 games overall while the over is 6-1 in Wheeler’s last 7 starts against a team with a winning record. Los Angeles is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between the two teams in New York.
Wood has had his ups and downs this season, but he seems to have turned things around, giving up just three runs over his last two starts. Wood has had no success against the Mets in his career, but a lot of those were no decisions and two of the three losses came when he was on the Braves and Atlanta wasn’t very good. It doesn’t matter who is on the mound right now, the Mets are just flat out unbackable, but the fact that Wheeler’s lone career start against the Dodgers went just two innings with seven earned runs just adds fuel to the fire so lay the reasonable juice with the Dodgers here.
