Alcides Escobar went 2 for 2 with a double and Salvador Perez added a two-bagger of his own, while Whit Merrifield, Alex Gordon and Paulo Orlando each contributed base hits as well in the victory. The Houston Astros will look to rebound after a frustrating loss to the Royals on Friday. Carlos Correa doubled and Jose Altuve added a base hit of his own as the Astros mustered up just two hits as a team, with the rest of the squad going 0 for 22 at the dish with 6 strikeouts. Dallas Keuchel threw six shutout innings, giving up just six hits while striking out six and not factoring in the decision. Ken Giles took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season. Lance McCullers Jr. will start game two and is 8-3 with a 3.77 ERA and 90 strikeouts this season.
Kansas City is 0-5 in Kennedy’s last 5 road starts and 5-21 in their last 26 games against the AL West while the under is 10-4 in their last 14 games overall. Houston is 4-0 in McCullers Jr.’s last 4 starts and 10-3 in their last 13 games against the AL Central while the over is 19-6-1 in their last 26 games overall. Houston is 4-1 in McCullers Jr.’s last 5 starts against Kansas City.
I not only got burned with the Astros on the run line on Friday, but they didn’t even win forget about covering. I’m not making that mistake again, even if McCullers is the better pitcher here I’m not paying this kind of juice. Don’t get it twisted though, I’m not backing the Royals either because KC still only scored one win even in the win. Instead, I’m going to side with the under. Kennedy has has lots of success in his career against Houston, posting a sub-two ERA, while McCullers held the Royals to just two runs in his last start and has been good for most of the season.
