The New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays meet in game two of their three game AL East division set from Tropicana Field in MLB action on Saturday.
The New York Yankees will be looking to rebound after having their four game winning streak snapped with a 2-1 loss in the series opener on Friday. Aaron Judge accounted for the lone Yankee run in the loss, while Brett Gardner went 2 for 5 at the dish. Aaron Hicks added a double and Miguel Andujar chipped in a base hit as well to round out the Yankee offense in the losing effort. CC Sabathia took the loss, falling to 4-3 this season after giving up both runs, one earned, on nine hits while striking out four over 5.1 innings of work. Sonny Gray will start game two and is 5-4 with a 4.89 ERA and 66 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gray is 3-4 with a 4.26 ERA and 58 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Rays will look to keep the momentum going after their series opening win on Friday. C.J. Cron and Willy Adames each had an RBI to account for Tampa’s scoring in the win, while Wilson Ramos went 3 for 4 and Carlos Gomez and Matt Duffy each had two hits. Daniel Robertson added a double as well to cap off the Rays’ offense in the win. Ryan Yarbrough ended up with the win to improve to 6-3 this season, while Sergio Romo chalked up his 5th save of the season. Wilmer Font will start game two and is 0-3 with a 7.56 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. This will be Font’s second career start against the Yankees.
New York is 7-1 in their last 8 division matchups and 4-0 in Gray’s last 4 road starts while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 road games. Tampa Bay is 4-1 in their last 5 home games and 1-5 in their last 6 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 8-1 in their last 9 games overall. New York is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
The plus money is tempting with Tampa at home as the Rays were able to steal game one and Font did a good job stifling the Yankees in his last appearance. However, I’m still not sold on the idea of reliever by committee and Gray has done a good job on the road as of late. I think the Yankees will bounce back here and while it’s a steeper price than I’d like to pay on the road, I think it’s the best option of the two here.
