Down at Minute Maid Park on Sunday, the Kansas City Royals and the Houston Astros will be finishing off their MLB set.
The Royals managed a 1-0 win in the Friday opener, then in game two Saturday we had a 12-inning marathon as the Astros posted a comeback 4-3 win.

For the Sunday game, the Royals will be bringing out RHP Jason Hammel. In his 90.1 innings and 2-8 mark this year, Hammel has a 4.88 ERA with 59 Ks and 25 BBs.
The Royals’ leading hitter this year is Whit Merrifield, entering the weekend with 79 hits, 31 runs and 23 RBI. On Saturday, Merrifield came up empty 0-for-5.
Over on the Astros’ side, they’re rolling with Gerrit Cole on Sunday. Across his 100.2 innings and 8-1 record this season, Cole has a 2.59 ERA with 138 Ks and 30 BBs.
Jose Altuve leads the Astros at the plate with 106 hits, 49 runs and 39 RBI coming into game two. On Saturday, Altuve bagged a hit and a run.
The Royals are 1-5 in their last six Sunday games and 4-22 in their last 26 in game three of a series. KC is also 5-14 in Hammel’s last 19 starts and 1-6 in his last seven starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 4-0 in their last four in game three of a series and 9-4 in their last 13 Sunday games. Houston is also 4-0 in Cole’s last four home starts and 6-0 in his last six starts with five days’ rest.
Hammel has been a little choppy lately, but he does have three quality starts across his last six outings and has only given up more than three earned once in that span. Cole has cooled off a bit, giving up eight earned in 13.0 innings over his last two starts. All things considered, I can’t think of a lot of reasons not to pick the Astros here, despite the enormous line.
