The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Pittsburgh Pirates duke it out in the finale of their four game set from PNC Park in MLB action on Sunday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to complete the sweep after taking the first three games of the set, including a 7-2 win in game three on Saturday. David Peralta led the D-Backs with two RBIs, going 2 for 3 with a triple and a double, while Paul Goldschmidt added a solo homer. Jon Jay added a double and an RBI, while Jake Lamb and Chris Owings each added an RBI as well in the win. Daniel Descalso and starting pitcher Zack Greinke each chipped in a double as well in the winning effort. Zack Greinke got the win to improve to 7-5 this season after tossing six shutout innings, striking out seven and giving up just a pair of hits. Clay Buchholz will start game four and is 1-1 with a 2.94 ERA and 26 strikeouts this season. In his career, Buchholz is 0-1 with a 10.13 ERA and 5 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping the first three games of the set, including Saturday’s loss. Josh Bell and Jordy Mercer each added an RBI to account for the pair of Pirate runs in the loss, while Elias Diaz added a pair of base hits. Corey Dickerson, Starling Marte and Jacob Stallings each added a base hit as well to cap off Pittsburgh’s offense in the losing effort. Joe Musgrove ended up with the loss, falling to 2-3 this season after giving up five runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out a pair over four innings of work. Trevor Williams will start game four and is 6-4 with a 4.00 ERA and 58 strikeouts this season. In his career, Williams is 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA and 9 strikeouts against Arizona.
Arizona is 6-1 in their last 7 road games and 10-4 in their last 14 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the NL Central. Pittsburgh is 3-8 in Williams’ last 11 starts against a team with a winning record and 1-5 in their last 6 games against the NL West while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall.
Williams has been solid for the Pirates this season, including allowing just one hit over seven shutout innings in his last start. The problem is that Williams also gave up eight runs against Arizona just two starts ago and the D-Backs have clearly gotten back into their groove offensively in this series. Buchholz had a blowup of his own in the same game, but he’s allowed two runs or less in his other five starts with Arizona this season so I’ll take the low line with Arizona to complete the sweep.
