The Washington Nationals could use a feel good victory after losing nine of their last 12 games. The Nationals have allowed 19 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 10 games. The Washington Nationals have lost seven of their last nine games when allowing at least three runs. Offensively, Trea Turner leads the Nationals with 79 hits and 26 RBI while Anthony Rendon and Michael Taylor have combined for 117 hits and 50 RBI. Jefry Rodriguez gets the ball, and he is 0-0 with a 4.66 ERA and nine strikeouts this season. This will be Rodriguez’s first career game against the Phillies.
The Phillies are 4-0 in their last 4 during game 3 of a series, 5-1 in Pivettas last 6 Sunday starts and 1-4 in Pivettas last 5 starts. The Nationals are 1-4 in their last 5 Sunday games, 1-4 in their last 5 vs. National League East and 2-6 in their last 8 overall. The Phillies are 6-15 in the last 21 meetings in Washington, 11-25 in the last 36 meetings and the over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
It should be only a matter of time before the Washington Nationals turn things around, but that doesn't mean I'm turning down plus money with the team in better form in the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies are simply playing baseball at the moment and while Pivetta has had his struggles, he's given up three or less runs in six of his last nine starts. Rodriguez has just 9.2 innings under his belt for his career and is coming off a game in which he was rocked by a bad Orioles squad. The value is with the Phillies and the plus money, so that's where I'm leaning.
