The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Miami Marlins will square off in game one of their four game set from Marlins Park in MLB action on Monday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks come into this game looking to extend their current four game winning streak which coincides with their four game sweep of the Pirates, including a 3-0 win in the series finale on Sunday. All of Arizona’s damage on the board was done with the home run, as David Peralta crushed a two run home run to open the scoring and John Ryan Murphy added a solo homer in the 2nd inning to give Arizona all of the offense they would need in the win. Jake Lamb went 2 for 4 while Jarrod Dyson and Daniel Descalso each added a base hit as well to cap off the Diamondbacks offense in the victory. Clay Buchholz got the win to improve to 2-1 this season after tossing five shutout innings, giving up just two hits while striking out five. Brad Boxberger closed out the 9th for his 17th save of the campaign. Shelby Miller will start game one and will be making his regular season debut after going 2-2 with a 4.09 ERA and 20 strikeouts last season before having to have Tommy John surgery. In his career, Miller is 2-4 with a 3.28 ERA and 26 strikeouts against Miami

The Miami Marlins will look to pick up some momentum after back-to-back wins to close out their series with Colorado, including an 8-6 win in the series finale on Sunday. Derek Dietrich and Justin Four each had two RBIs, with Dietrich going 4 for 5 with a home run and a double. J.T. Realmuto, JT Riddle, Cameron Maybin and Lewis Brinson each had an RBI as well with Brinson putting up a pinch-hit triple while Realmuto and Riddle each added a double. Brian Anderson, J.B. Shuck and Yadiel Rivera each contributed a base hit as well in the win. Drew Rucinski picked up the win in relief to improve to 2-1 this season while Kyle Barraclough picked up his 7th save of the year. Dan Straily will start game one and is 2-3 with a 4.89 ERA and 39 strikeouts this season. In his career, Straily is 1-1 with a 2.20 ERA and 21 strikeouts against Arizona.
Arizona is 7-1 in their last 8 road games and 5-0 in their last 5 series opening games while the over is 12-3-1 in their last 16 games against a right-handed starter. Miami is 0-5 in Straily’s last 5 starts and 0-6 in Straily’s last 6 starts against the NL West while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Arizona is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
Miami had some solid outings against Colorado in winning the series and who knows what we will see from Miller after being away from the game for more than a year. However, it says something that Miller is a road favorite in his first start back. I’m as quick to fade a pitcher in this spot as the next guy. However the Marlins have lost each of Straily’s last five starts and Arizona showed that they’re more than capable of winning on the road lately, completing a four game sweep over a Pirates team that was building some momentum heading into that series. I’ll take a shot with Arizona on Monday as more of a fade from Miami with Straily on the bump.
