Monday MLB features the New York Mets welcoming the Pittsburgh Pirates to Citi Field.

The Pittsburgh Pirates need a win and some momentum after their offense stalled Sunday in a 3-0 loss to the surging Diamondbacks. Pittsburgh starter Trevor Williams allowed all three runs on five hits including a pair of homers over six frames to fall to 6-5.

The Prates were limited to five hits with Josh Bell topping the bats with a pair of hits. The Pirates give Monday’s start at Citi Field to right hander Jameson Taillon. Taillon comes off of a 3-2 defeat to Milwaukee with all three runs plated on seven hits in five frames.

The struggles of the New York Mets continued following an 8-7, eleven inning defeat at the hands of the visiting LA Dodgers. Jerry Blevins gave New York two innings and gave up two runs with Anthony Swarzak allowing three runs before Chris Flexen served up a solo homer in the 11th to get the loss.

The Mets banged out nine hits and walked three times with Asdrubal Cabrera going deep and driving in two while Kevin Plawecki went 2-5 with a homer and four RBI’s. The NY Mets have named Seth Lugo as the starter against the visiting Brewers on Monday. Lugo  has dropped consecutive games following a 10-8 loss at Colorado with three runs allowed n three innings.

Pittsburgh are 2-6 in their last 8 road games and under is 8-1-1 in Taillon’s last 10 road starts. Under is 7-1 in NY Mets last 8 home games and NY Mets are 7-21 in their last 28 home games and NY Mets are 16-37 in their last 53 overall. Over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings and Pittsburgh are 13-6 in the last 19 meetings.

Neither team has me running to the betting window but I’ll back the Pirates to for a small stake…
