The Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Mets square off in game two of their three game set from Citi Field in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to build some steam and push for the sweep on Wednesday after scoring a 6-4 win in the series opener on Monday. Josh Bell and Elias Diaz each had two RBIs, with Bell hitting a home run while Diaz went 2 for 4 at the dish. Gregory Polanco and Josh Harrison each added an RBI as well with Polanco hitting a solo homer. Colin Moran added a double and Starling Marte added a base hit as well while crossing the plate three times for the Pirates in the winning effort. Jameson Taillon got the win after giving up two runs on four hits while striking out five over six innings of work to improve to 5-6 this season. Chad Kuhl will start game two and is 5-5 with a 4.56 ERA and 77 strikeouts this season. This will be Kuhl’s second career start against the Mets.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets will look to rebound from yet another loss after their series opening defeat on Tuesday which extended their losing streak to seven games. Wilmer Flores hit a pinch-hit three run home run, while Kevin Plawecki went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI to account for all of New York’s scoring in the loss. Jose Reyes went 2 for 4 with a double of his own, while Devin Mesoraco and Asdrubal Cabrera each added a base hit in the losing effort. Seth Lugo took the loss, falling to 2-3 this season after giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits while walking three and striking out four over five innings of work. Steven Matz will start game two and is 3-5 with a 3.68 ERA and 63 strikeouts this season. This will be Matz’s second career start against Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is 3-10 in Kuhl’s last 13 road starts and 1-5 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 5-1 in Kuhl’s last 6 starts overall. New York is 0-4 in Matz’s last 4 starts against a team with a losing record and 6-21 in their last 27 home games while the under is 4-0 in Matz’s last 4 starts overall. Pittsburgh is 14-6 in the last 20 meetings between these two teams.

Call me crazy, but even though Kuhl gave up eight runs in his last start and is on the road, I don’t think a team that’s lost seven in a row should be a favorite even at home. It’s not like we are getting an ace or a second pitcher in a team’s rotation here. Matt has been far from perfect this season and is coming off of a start where he gave up five runs against the Rockies. Plus, Matz is a better pitcher on the road than at home, as he is allowing an ERA just under five at Citi Field this season. The Pirates aren’t in much better form, but I’m not laying juice with the Mets. Give me Pittsburgh and the plus money here.
