For Tuesday’s game, the Padres will be bringing out RHP Tyson Ross. In his 89.0 innings and 5-5 record this year, Ross has a 3.34 ERA with 85 Ks and 32 BBs.
Eric Hosmer leads the Padres in hitting this year, coming into this set with 80 hits, 35 runs and 35 RBI. On Monday, Hunter Renfroe collected three hits.
Over on the Rangers’ side, they’re going with Austin Bibens-Dirkx on Tuesday. Across 17.2 innings and a 1-1 record this year, Bibens-Dirkx has a 4.58 ERA with 11 Ks and two walks.
Tops in offense for the Rangers is Shin-Soo Choo, who came out of the weekend with 82 hits, 48 runs, 14 homers and 36 RBI. In the Monday game, Choo had three hits and an RBI.
The Padres are 4-1 in their last five in game two of a series and 6-0 in Ross’ last six starts in game two of a series. San Diego is also 6-2 in Ross’ last eight starts and 5-2 in his last seven road starts versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 10-2 in their last 12 in game two of a series and 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games. Texas is also 0-4 in Bibens-Dirkx’s last four home starts and 1-4 in his last five starts versus a team with a losing record.
Ross is sitting on two straight quality starts, giving up four earned on seven hits in 13.0 innings with seven Ks in that span. As for Bibens-Dirkx, he looked rough in his first two starts this year but posted one earned in 6.2 innings versus KC. This isn’t too bad of a matchup and should be a fun one to watch. All things considered however, I’m going Padres.
