The Cleveland Indians and the Oakland A’s meet in game one of a three game set in MLB action on Friday night.
The Cleveland Indians will look to build some steam after salvaging a win and avoiding the sweep at the hands of St. Louis thanks to a 5-1 win in the series finale on Wednesday. Lonnie Chisenhall led the Tribe with two RBIs, going 1 for 4 with a home run, while Edwin Encarnacion added a solo homer as well. Jason Kipnis and Roberto Perez each had two hits and an RBI, while Michael Brantley, Tyler Naquin and starting pitcher Shane Bieber each contributed a double in the win. Jose Ramirez added a base hit as well in the winning effort for Cleveland. Shane Bieber got the win to improve to 3-0 this season after giving up the one run on six hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Trevor Bauer will start game one and is 7-5 with a 2.44 ERA and 140 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bauer is 1-2 with a 4.44 ERA and 29 strikeouts against Oakland.

The Oakland A’s will look to stay hot after completing the four game sweep of the Detroit Tigers, including a 4-2 win in the series finale on Thursday. Jed Lowrie and Chad Pinder each went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI while Mark Canha and Khris Davis added an RBI as well. Stephen Piscotty and Marcus Semien each went 2 for 4 to cap off Oakland’s offense in the victory. Sean Manaea got the win to improve to 8-6 this season after giving up both runs on five hits over six innings of work. Blake Treinen got the save for his 20th save of the year. Paul Blackburn will start game one and is 1-2 with an 8.83 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. This will be Blackburn’s second career start against Cleveland.
Cleveland is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall and 7-2 in their last 9 series opening matchups while the over is 13-3 in their last 16 games against the AL West. Oakland is 10-2 in their last 12 games overall and 39-15 in their last 54 games against the AL Central while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 home games. Cleveland is 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and 0-5 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Oakland.
Bauer has been solid on the road, having a better ERA away from home than at Progressive Field this season. However, I don’t know how much juice I really want to lay on the road with Cleveland who can still be up and down. On the other hand, Oakland is hot in their own right, but I just don’t trust Blackburn after giving up six runs or more in two of his last three starts. All in all, between two clubs that are swinging the bats well right now, I like the over in this one.
